Listen to the PERFECT Exhaust Sound on This 1965 Mustang
There are few sounds in the world as satisfying as a classic 1965 Mustang firing up.
In a YouTube video titled Mustang 1965 V8 289 – perfect exhaust sound, car enthusiasts are treated to an absolute symphony of raw V8 power.
The Mustang in question? A labor of love.
The video’s creator bought this beauty while financing his master’s degree at Skema Business School. He used his student loan money to pay for his first year in the U.S. but invested the rest into this Mustang—his first car.
It took him four months to find the right one. Then five more months of work to get it into top shape.
New master cylinder. New radiator. New exhaust pipe gaskets. New tires. New steering wheel. New carpet.
The result? A dream machine.
For five months, it was his daily driver. Then, he shipped it to France to sell. The funds went toward a personal project—an epic motorcycle journey from Canada to Argentina to present his work at top universities along the way.
The sound of this Mustang is nothing short of perfection.
The 289 cubic inch V8 under the hood might not be the biggest engine Ford ever made, but it has a character all its own. As YouTube commenter @kenwelch198 put it:
“The 289 is a very underrated engine. Lightweight, revs well and makes good power for its size. I had one in my ‘66 Comet. It left many a Camaro and Charger in the dust when challenged at the light!”
And that exhaust note? Absolute music.
One viewer, @xandera.9356, summed it up perfectly:
“That sound surpassed my expectations by a million.”
It’s not just the exhaust that’s getting attention, though. The simple click of the door latching has car lovers obsessed.
Commenter @VncentValntine admitted:
“As someone who’s owned one of these, I’m more impressed by that door latching sound.”
Another fan, @matthiaseb2928, pointed out a detail that makes the engine startup even more special:
“I love how you can hear the cylinders starting up one by one.”
This Mustang isn’t just a car—it’s an experience.
As @kukelhupf put it:
“It’s a shame we don’t build cars like that anymore. I would be happy if the cars nowadays would at least look like that.”
Classic Mustangs have a soul. A presence. A sound that modern cars just can’t replicate.
